DENVER — Freshman Samantha Kisiel scored a team-high 13 points, while senior Blair Bokelman scored 12 on 6-of-10 shooting as Evergreen won its first game of the season 47-31 over host Montbello on Dec. 1.
Kisiel added 14 rebounds.
The win was the first for head coach Amy Mohr, who took over this season.
Evergreen held the Lady Warriors without a field goal in the first quarter to take an early 8-1 lead. The advantage was 21-13 at halftime and 33-23 after three quarters.
Lauren Russell and Devin Maroney scored five points each for the Lady Cougars (1-1). Russell also had nine boards. Emily Elmgreen had four steals and four assists.
It was a nice change of pace for Evergreen, which dropped its season opener at Sand Creek 66-51 two nights earlier. Sand Creek jumped out to a 21-4 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
The Lady Cougars, however, did outscore Sand Creek 37-30 in the second half and 47-45 over the final three quarters.
