Longtime Evergreen jeweler receives design award

John Varner knew he wanted to be a jeweler at the age of 9.

He started Morning Star Jewelers in Evergreen at age 18, and 28 years later, he’s winning awards for his jewelry design.

Varner has won two first-place awards in the Rocky Mountain Jewelers Association. A ring he designed took first place in its category, and a bracelet he designed took first place in its category and then won the best-of-show category. Now it will move on to be judged at the national level of Jewelers of America in January.
