Jeffco school bus driver killed in U.S. 285 accident

A Jeffco school bus driver was killed Friday afternoon in an accident on U.S. 285 near Windy Point.

The driver's name is not being released pending notification of family members. There were no students on board at the time of the accident.

According to Colorado State Patrol spokesman Josh Lewis, the driver was standing outside the bus and was struck by another vehicle. The accident happened about 1 p.m. Inter-Canyon firefighters were on the scene, and as of 4 p.m. both directions of U.S. 285 were still closed.

A statement from Jeffco Public Schools says, “Our hearts go out to the bus driver’s family and the staff of Jeffco’s West Transportation.”
