The Jefferson County elections office was inundated with calls Oct. 20, Colorado's first day of early voting in the 2008 general election.
"They're experiencing a large volume of calls, but since it's the first day of early voting, that's not unexpected," said Kathryn Heider, spokeswoman for Jefferson County.
Heider said people can still call the elections office at 303-271-8111 or check www.votejeffco.com for information on voter registration or on early-voting locations.
"We're trying to put up as much on the website as we can," Heider said.
The high volume of calls shouldn't dissuade people from voting early, Heider said. In recent weeks, the county has joined with Gov. Bill Ritter in calling for people to avoid long lines Nov. 4 by voting early on one of the longest ballots in state history.
