The Inter-Canyon Fire board on Saturday discussed whether the district’s Patrol program, a youth organization, poses unacceptable risk for injury and liability.
Inter-Canyon has offered the youth program since 1958 to recruit future firefighters; youths ages 16 to 18 get the chance to train and even respond on calls under the supervision of firefighters. The program currently has 16 members.
Board members talked about safety concerns for participants and whether Inter-Canyon can afford to continue the program.
