A homeowner and experienced hunter on Bergen View Trail woke up New Year’s Eve morning about 7 a.m. and spotted three, never-before-tagged young mountain lions on his property.
One was trapped in the chicken coop behind his house, and another one was stalking around the front of the house. A third lion was keeping track of the one in the cage.
Justin Jones lives in the last house on Bergen View Trail, about 3 miles west of Evergreen Lake on Upper Bear Creek Road. His house is at about 9,000 feet at the top of a steep slope accessed by a dirt road with many switchbacks.
“I like it that way,” Jones said. “I like waking up and seeing mountain lions. That’s Colorado living.”
