Kittredge Canyonfest

The annual Kittredge Canyonfest, an outdoor festival sponsored by the Kittredge Civic Association, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, in Kittredge Community Park. Evergreen Newcomers & Neighbors kick-off event

Evergreen High School Cougar Stride 5K run and walk to benefit the EHS instrumental music program will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. Inter-Canyon celebrates 60th birthday

The Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District is celebrating its 60th birthday from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 20, at Station 1, 7939 S. Turkey Creek Road in Morrison. Firefighting demonstrations, ambulance tours, equipment demonstrations and wildfire mitigation tips will be offered. 

 

Safety fair

The Evergreen Safety Fair will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Evergreen Fire/Rescue Administration Building, 1802 Bergen Parkway. The pancake breakfast begins at 8 a.m., and the fair, which includes a bike rodeo, free helmets and car seat checks, begins at 10 a.m. The fair is sponsored by Evergreen Fire/Rescue and Drive Smart of Evergreen/Conifer.

 

Reflections of Peace

The Reflections of Peace 13th annual interfaith observance will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the labyrinth at Church of the Transfiguration in Evergreen. The event is sponsored by Evergreen Peace, a local organization that supports activities promoting peace and justice. Reflections of Peace is being held along with many worldwide events on the U.N. International Day of Peace. Those attending are reminded to dress warmly and bring electric candles or other light sources (no flames), as well as thoughts or prayers for peace and music about peace to share. Outdoor Quilt Festival seeks entries

The grounds around Hiwan Homestead Museum will be filled with more than 100 handmade quilts and coverlets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. Three quilts per person may be entered in this non-juried show, on a first-come-first served basis.  There is no charge to enter your quilts, which will be on loan to the museum. 1830s Rendezvous & Spanish Colonial Art Market

The Tesoro Cultural Center presents the 13th annual 1830s Rendezvous & Spanish Colonial Art Market on Sept. 27 and 28 on the grounds of The Fort, 19192 Colorado 8, Morrison. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and features Spanish colonial art and jewelry and historical interpreters that enact colorful scenes of the west in the 1830s. Plus there will be the 1830s Mountain Man Rendezvous, which features an old-fashioned taffy pull, story-telling, face painting, Fandango dancing and a Mexican paper flower craft.

Howl at the Moon fund-raiser

Sign language class to begin soon

Evergreen Christian Church will start evening classes in American Sign Language. Classes are open to adults and kids even if you just want to learn ASL for fun. Finger spelling, numbers, and words and phrases will be covered. Hiking group meets monthly

Lutheran Church of the Cross has a co-ed hiking group called the Soul Hikers for moderate-level hikers that meets at various locations on the fourth Thursday of the month. The hike is a minimum of 3 miles. Anyone able to make the trek is welcome. To get on the group’s e-mail list, call the church office at 303-674-4130. Once you are on the list, you will receive notifications of times and locations for hikes, and any changes that may be caused by weather issues.

 

A Night in the Park

EChO Resale, Home Furnishing Store help needed

Volunteers are needed for both the Resale Shop and EChO Home Store for a variety of positions, including cashiers, assistance on the sales floor and backroom sorting staff. There are open morning and afternoon shifts on most days. In addition to cashiers, help is needed in the Home Furnishing Store back room. Volunteers are needed to do light repair and refinishing of donated furniture to prepare it for display on the sales floor. 4-H Dog Project recruiting

The Jefferson County 4-H Dog Project is recruiting youths ages 8 to 18 who are interested in learning more about dog care, obedience, training, rally and showmanship. Some agility training is thrown in for fun. Youth who are currently enrolled in 4-H can join the dog project for no additional cost. One group meets in the Conifer area, and another is being established at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden. Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group meets monthly in Evergreen

Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice, in cooperation with the Alzheimer’s Association, offers a support group for caregivers, family and friends of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias on the third Monday of every month from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The free program is designed to help caregivers cope with emotional as well as practical aspects of the disease. Ask-an-Attorney clinics

The First Judicial District will offer an “Ask an Attorney” clinic to self-represented litigants on the first Thursday of every month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Jury Assembly Room, 100 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden. Appointments may be scheduled, and walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis. Each month, a family law attorney will be available; an attorney who can answer questions regarding other civil matters will be available every second month. Local charities launch Showers for Those in Need initiative

United Methodist Church of Evergreen has established a mission of support called Showers for Those in Need, in conjunction with Evergreen Christian Outreach and the Evergreen rec centers. Those in need of a hot shower can go to EChO at 27640 Highway 74 in Evergreen and claim a voucher that can be used for a free shower at either local rec center. Free car seat safety checks are offered by Drive Smart Evergreen/Conifer from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second Saturday of each month at the Chuck Ridings State Farm building, 3112 Evergreen Parkway in Evergreen. We can answer questions and help ensure everyone in the vehicle is traveling as safely as possible. The goal is to show you how to use your car seat, booster seat or seat belt in your car. Jefferson County Public Library has expanded its collection to meet the ever-changing needs of Jefferson County citizens.
