Jeffco’s Board of Commissioners has a new chairwoman, as Commissioner Faye Griffin was unanimously elected to the post for 2014.
Griffin, who has previously served as chair pro tem, will take over from Commissioner Don Rosier, who has been chairman since 2012.
Griffin said she was nervous about following proper protocol and would depend on county staff and the other commissioners to help her in the new position.
This isn’t the first time Griffin has led the board. In 2011, Griffin became chairwoman when former commissioner and chairman Kevin McCasky resigned in January to lead the Jefferson County Economic Development Corp.
While Griffin has two years remaining in her final term on the board, she has filed to run in the 2014 election for county clerk and recorder.
If Griffin is elected once again to the clerk job — she served two terms in the position from 1998 to 2006 before being elected county treasurer — the Republican said she would step down as a commissioner. In that event, a GOP vacancy committee would appoint a person to serve the rest of her term.
