The Andy Smith Sr. Memorial Special Needs Golf Tournament at Hiwan Golf Club on July 15 raised more than $35,000 for the Evergreen Park & Recreation District’s special needs programs and two other charities.
Twenty-eight foursomes participated in the tournament, for which NBA player Keith Van Horn was honorary chairman.
The event was organized by the Mountain Foothills Rotary Club and the recreation district. Funds raised, which included registration fees, sponsor donations, silent auction proceeds, games and drawings, will help improve EPRD’s special needs program and make financial scholarships available for participants. The funds also will support Evergreen Christian Outreach and the Mountain Foothills Rotary Foundation.
Major tournament sponsors included Evergreen Oil, Conoco/Phillips, Advantage Golf, Elevation Dental, Loaf ‘N Jug and The Bagelry.
