The end of 2009 is a new beginning for the Evergreen Chorale, as new executive director Maggie Glass begins her work for the organization.
Glass, who earned a bachelor’s degree in theater arts from the University of Denver, is no stranger to the theater or performing arts organizations in Colorado. She recently worked with the Central City Opera and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. She was chosen from a pool of 60 applicants.
Jim Rohrer, a member of the Evergreen Chorale board of directors, who headed the search committee, said: “We needed to find someone with the big-picture approach, and Maggie is that gal. She is also a very people- and goal-oriented person.”
It hasn’t taken long for Glass to recognize the importance of the Chorale and Center/Stage to Evergreen.
“I love the rich history of the Chorale and that sense of family it exudes,” Glass said. “I’m seeing a lot of great opportunities working with this group and this wonderful theater. I’m looking forward to reaching out to the community.”
One of Glass’ first priorities is fund-raising. The Chorale purchased the land under Center/Stage in May from the Attachment Center and has embarked on a $175,000 capital campaign.
Linda Gallup, chair of the Capital Campaign Committee, said: “We’ve raised almost half the money already, but in the short time Maggie has been with us, she has already helped tremendously.”
Meanwhile, Glass is eager to jump into the production schedule.
“I’m looking forward to my first production with the Evergreen Chorale as its executive director.” said Glass.
Her first effort will be the concert “150 Years of Holiday Music In Evergreen,” a celebration of Christmas and other holiday music that has been sung in Evergreen over the past 150 years. It features many of the Chorale members’ favorite songs they have sung for the past 37 years.
The concert will feature 7:30 p.m. shows Dec. 18 and 19 and a 2 p.m. matinee Dec. 20. Tickets — $19 for adults, $17 for students and seniors, and $10 for children 10 and under — can be purchased at www.evergreenchorale.org or 303-674-4002. Special rates are also available for groups of at least 10.
