Four candidates, including three incumbents, will vie for three four-year terms on the Inter-Canyon Fire District board in May's election.
Kerry Prielipp turned in a self-nomination form and will challenge incumbents Leslie Caimi, Karl Firor and Michael Reddy.
Another seat up for election on the Inter-Canyon board with a two-year term had only one candidate, incumbent Joe Marcus, and so he will remain on the board, said Dana Retterer, Inter-Canyon’s election official. Board member Ralph Dreher’s seat is not up for election.
Inter-Canyon’s election will be held May 6. Polls will be set up at Station 1, 7939 S. Turkey Creek Road in Morrison. Retterer said more information will be available 20 days before the election.
An issue certain to arise in the election is the $643,000 of district funds that were misspent or went missing during the tenure of former fire chief David MacBean, who is facing felony theft and embezzlement charges.
Board members Reddy, Marcus and Dreher served on the board during those years.
The next Inter-Canyon board meeting is at 7 p.m. March 12 at Station 1. For more information, visit www.intercanyonfire.org.
No election for Elk Creek
The Elk Creek Fire Protection District board won’t have an election in May, as no additional candidates entered the race to challenge the board’s incumbents.
Mike Rogers, Stan Foxx and Len Wisneski will remain on the board for another four years. The terms of members Greg Branch and Alec Schwartz expire in May 2016.
“This board has been excellent to work with,” said Fire Chief Bill McLaughlin, adding that the district will save $15,000 in election costs.
“The public gave the fire district a vote of confidence at the November election (by approving a property-tax increase),” he said. “This, too, I see as a vote of confidence in the direction this department is headed.”
The next Elk Creek board meeting is at 6 p.m. March 13 at Station 1, 11993 Blackfoot Road in Conifer. For more information, visit www.elkcreekfire.org.
