Former Jefferson County sheriff Russ Cook was arrested in South Jeffco on Jan. 21, accused of stalking a woman in El Paso County.

Jeffco deputies arrested Cook, 58, in his home without incident, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley. Kelley said her office asked Arapahoe County for assistance in holding Cook on the no-bond warrant to avoid conflicts of interest in the Jeffco jail.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said that Cook was transferred to El Paso County custody the morning of Jan. 23. He reportedly bonded out later that day.

It was not clear what relationship Cook had with the woman he is accused of stalking.

Cook was elected Jeffco sheriff in November 2003, and took office the following January. He resigned less than a year later after battling alcoholism, and was replaced by current Sheriff Ted Mink.
