A brush truck that Foothills Fire & Rescue had just purchased was able to get close enough to a half-acre wildfire near the Chief Hosa Campground and extinguish it June 27.
“We really got lucky,” said Dave Geralds, Foothills Fire & Rescue training captain.
After receiving a call from a nearby resident, firefighters began running a water shuttle to put out the blaze caused by lightning striking a tree.
“When we got on the scene, the fire was driving into four other trees,” Geralds said.
