Due to current dry conditions, high risk of wildfire and limited availability of resources, stage 1 fire restrictions were enacted in Jefferson County at 6 p.m. Thursday by the Sheriff's Office.
According to Sheriff Jeff Schrader, the restrictions apply to areas west of Highway 93, west of C-470, south and west of the intersection of Wadsworth Boulevard and C-470 and west of the South Platte River.
Stage 1 restrictions prohibit building, maintaining, attending or using any fire or recreational campfires; open burning; and using fireworks. Wood pellet grills, charcoal barbecue grills at private homes, portable outdoor fireplaces and recreational fires in a permanently constructed fire grate are permitted.
Jeffco is one of several areas where fire restrictions and burn bans have been enacted, including Garfield, Elbert and Las Animas counties. The Platte Canyon Fire Protection District enacted a burn ban Feb. 11 after several wildfires broke out in the area last week.
