A fire at Keys on the Green on April 16 caused about $50,000 in damage to the roof and walls of the restaurant.
A call for a possible structure fire came in at 9:24 a.m. to Evergreen Fire/Rescue, and it was initially thought the fire was in the kitchen, according to Fire Chief Garry Dejong. When firefighters arrived, the building was being evacuated.
“When we got there, there was smoke coming from the eaves,” Dejong said. “It was pushing out pretty good.”
Firefighters determined the fire was in the ceiling above one of the restrooms. They gained access to that area fairly quickly and knocked down the fire, Dejong said. The smoke was vented through the roof. No one was injured.
“There was fairly minimal damage when you look at the big picture of things,” he said.
Six fire trucks and about 24 personnel were at the scene for 30 minutes. Dejong said his estimate of $50,000 damage doesn’t include any possible smoke damage to the pro shop.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
