Billy Van Heusen will tell you that he liked Denver so much that he never left. The former Denver Broncos split end and punter has made the Mile High region his home, even now some 33 years after his playing days ended.
The 64-year-old, following the footsteps set a year earlier by his coach at Maryland, Lou Saban, joined the Denver Broncos as a free agent in 1968, making a mere $12,000 a season. It was an opportunity he was grateful for in the aftermath of a knee operation after his senior season to repair some cartilage damage.
