Mackenzie Iddings, Tate Grove and Michael Iddings competed in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Rocky Mountain Enduro Circuit’s opening race of the 2011 season on Feb. 5. The Duel in the Desert featured a cactus-riddled single-track course with technical sections, deep sand and open-range cattle. The local racers fared well against a competitive field from the mountain west.
Mackenzie Iddings, a West Jefferson Middle School eighth-grader, in the first race, overcame a crash and several head of cattle crossing the course to win it by a comfortable margin. He rode confidently in the second race to win and establish an early lead in the season’s points series.
Tate Grove, a Marshdale third-grader, moved up from the 50CC the 65CC class and steered his way to fifth and sixth places against a large field of experience racers.
Michael Iddings, a Conifer High School freshman, demonstrated his smooth handling skills, avoiding crashes and cattle to win both races. He starts the season with a commanding lead in the points series. Iddings will competing in both the junior series as well as the Adult-Long course beginning in March.
