Drive Smart's annual Ice Fest is an alcohol-free event designed for families and those who wish to ring in the new year safely.

This year's festival begins with a pond hockey tournament at Evergreen Lake on New Year's Eve from 8 a.m. until noon.

Skate the Lake at Evergreen Lake begins at 6 p.m. and continues until midnight on New Year's Eve. Along with unlimited ice skating will be warming bonfires, sleigh rides, food, music, dancing and ice games such as broom hockey.

Two fireworks displays will take place over the lake during the evening, one at 8 p.m. for youngsters and another at midnight.

Tickets for the event are $20 each and are available at Boone Mountain Sports, Morse Auto Body, Hearthfire Books, Da Kind Soups and the Wulf and Buchanan recreation centers until 2 p.m. Dec. 31. Tickets are limited to 3,500 and usually sell out before the event.

Any remaining tickets can be purchased at the event for $25 each. Children under 8 years of age are admitted free. The cost of skate rental is not included in the ticket price.

The sixth annual Evergreen Lake Plunge takes place at noon on New Year's Day at Evergreen Lake, snow or shine.

This event is a partnership with Drive Smart, Evergreen Fire/Rescue, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Evergreen Park and Recreation District.
