Amanda Lynne Davis, daughter of Ron and Andrea Davis of Evergreen, was recently awarded her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts. For her project, she created awareness of hunger and poverty by educating her peers and collecting needed items for a Lakewood group, Mean Street Ministry. With the help of the community, she collected 1,054 items, including travel-sized toiletries, food items, books and toys valued at approximately $1,800. She also created a PowerPoint presentation about the reality of homelessness and distributed it to schools throughout Colorado. She encouraged other youths to become involved by donating their time and effort to help others in need. Davis is a 2012 graduate of Evergreen High School and will be attending the Colorado School of Mines in the fall to pursue a degree in biochemical engineering.
