LAKEWOOD — It was the only clear shot Bear Creek had on Matthew Hornbecker. And, as it would turn out, it would be the one shot the Evergreen goalkeeper wish he could have back.
Tyler Kipp’s boot left of the sun-shielded keeper bounced off Hornbecker’s hands into the wide-open net in the opening minutes. It would be the game’s lone goal as Bear Creek handed Evergreen its first loss of the season 1-0 in the finals of the 5A/4A South Jeffco Invitational on Sept. 8 at Lakewood Memorial Field.
