Conifer family escapes house fire that destroyed garage

A father and son living on Meyer Parkway in Conifer escaped a house fire late Feb. 6 after a passersby at the King Soopers across U.S. 285 alerted first responders to the blaze.

According to Jacob Ware, deputy fire chief for Elk Creek Fire, Jeffco sheriff’s deputies were called about a structure fire in the 9700 block of Meyer Parkway at 10:14 p.m. Feb. 6, and discovered an attached garage and several trees on fire. Deputies Denise Denuzzi, James Huffman and Jacy Gardner were able to wake the homeowner, who told deputies that his teenage son was in the basement.
