A series of challenging outbursts punctuated Hearing Room One on Tuesday after the Jeffco Board of County Commissioners approved rezoning a lot along U.S. 285 near Windy Point to allow for an event center.

More than 20 residents from the Homestead neighborhood spoke out against the rezoning, citing increased fire dangers, highway safety and noise as their biggest concerns.

Owners Stephen and Janelle Statham said they bought the 52-acre lot at 8884 U.S. 285 to build a facility that could be rented for weddings and other gatherings.
