It wouldn’t be the holiday season in Evergreen without enjoying an evening or two with friends and family at Center/Stage. Our hometown performing arts center is alive with holiday shows for all three weekends prior to Christmas, and there’s something for everyone.
The Evergreen Children’s Chorale is presenting “Down Home Holiday,” with four performances: Thursday, Dec. 5, through Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. This year’s choir includes more than 50 talented youngsters in fourth through eighth grades who have been rehearsing since September for this special event. Cozy up and start your holiday off with the sweet sounds of the Children’s Chorale.
The Evergreen Chorale, our adult community choir, is collaborating with Rocky Mountain BrassWorks to bring a little jazz into your holiday season with “A Holiday Fantasy,” to be performed at Center/Stage at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 and 14, and a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Dec. 15. They will also perform the concert at Broomfield Auditorium (the BrassWorks’ home venue) on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m.
Christine Gaudreau, artistic and musical director of the Evergreen Chorale, will share the conductor’s podium with Doug Harris, artistic director of Rocky Mountain BrassWorks. Each group will perform some pieces on its own, as well as several combined numbers, including versions of “The Little Drummer Boy” and “Silent Night” arranged for voices and brass. Tickets for these concerts are selling fast, so reserve in advance at www.evergreenchorale.org or by calling 303-674-4002.
On the weekend of Dec. 20-22, Center/Stage will be filled with the echoes of Charles Dickens’ classic when the Evergreen Players present a staged reading of “A Christmas Carol.” Six actors will bring to life the voices of Tiny Tim and the rest of the Cratchit family, as well as the well-known ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. Performances are Friday, Dec. 20, and Saturday, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m.
Finally, on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 22, the wonderful musicians of Baroque Folke invite the community to a free concert of their special blend of holiday music. The candlelit concert will be at 7 p.m., and will include carols accompanied by recorders and harpsichord.
