The Center for the Arts Evergreen is a bustling place dedicated to promoting and cultivating artistic excellence and to enriching the art experience in our mountain community. Each year CAE hosts events, exhibitions, classes, arts festivals and programs. At the heart of it all are the artists who support the center through memberships, donations and volunteering.  The annual CAE Members Show is a way to highlight the work of these artists who give so much of their time and of themselves to make the Center for the Arts such an amazing place.

The annual Members Show opened on Friday, May 31. The theme for this show was “Kaleidoscope,” and it offered an array of media from watercolor paintings to raku clay to handcarved wood to photography and oil paintings. This year's juror, Dan Oakleaf, had the difficult task of selecting the award winners, which were announced at last Friday's opening reception.

The Center for the Arts presented seven awards. Best of Show went to Marjie Eakin-Petty for a pastel titled "Heart of the Canyon." First place was awarded to Warren Zimmer for his oil painting "Nearing Las Vegas, New Mexico." Second place went to Herb Dreo for "Carved Juniper Bowl."  Third place was awarded to Michael Gabridge for a photograph titled "Zen Pine."  Three honorable mentions were awarded to Roger Ambrosier for "Afternoon Cows," Jane Christie for "Summer Garden," and Denise Whittaker for "Coventina Celtic Goddess of All Water." The “Kaleidoscope” show is open through June 20.

The “Kaleidoscope” show kicks off a busy summer of art for the Center for the Arts Evergreen. The Art in Wine will take place on Saturday, June 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event is an exclusive evening of art, wine and their undeniable correlation. Ashley Hausman Vaughters, a certified sommelier, will lead participants in tasting an array of wines from around the world paired with cheeses.  Tickets for this event are $50 for CAE members and $60 for non-members, and space is limited to 24 individuals; reservations can be made at 303-674-0056.
