This year’s Music Festival and Art Show at Evergreen Lake on July 4 offers those attending the opportunity to view the work of area artists and listen to a variety of sounds ranging from symphonic melodies to Celtic tunes.
The event begins at 10 a.m. with a performance by the Sedici Corde String Quartet, a group of four young musicians playing traditional chamber works. The art show also begins at this time in the Evergreen Lake House, where artists will demonstrate creative techniques.
At 11 a.m. the Denver Brass takes the stage to play a variety of music ranging from classical to jazz, Broadway and Latin. The group creates sound with brass, bagpipes, steel drums, hand bells, fiddlers, vocals and soloists. The Rocky Mountain Highland Dancers and the Celtic Colorado Pipes and Drums will follow with spirited performances.
Beginning at noon, Evergreen musician John Erlandson and the Mostly Pretty Random All-Stars will continue the celebration with their special blend of musical styles.
The Jefferson Symphony Orchestra will perform with the Evergreen Chorale at 2 p.m. In keeping with the July 4 tradition of more than three decades, the symphony orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s "1812 Overture," as well as many other popular pieces with a July 4 theme.
In addition to music and art, Trout Unlimited and the Evergreen Nature Center are planning entertainment for children at the festival.
Entries in a kids’coloring contest will also be displayed and judged during the event. Prizes will be awarded in three categories and will include a $25 gift certificate to a local ice creamery. All children who bring a qualified entry to the festival will receive a free ice cream.
