Bugged by hugs: Evergreen Middle seeks to define 'appropriate' touching

A ubiquitous ad campaign once proclaimed: “Hugs, not drugs.”

But hugs that apparently extended beyond cordial contact have led Evergreen Middle School to send home a pair of letters addressing the definition of appropriate and inappropriate student behavior.

“Hugging is part of our culture, but we also have to make sure kids are protected from inappropriate behavior,” said Cindy Stevenson, superintendent of Jeffco Public Schools.
