The annual Evergreen Rodeo kicks off with a carnival atmosphere this year. With its “Under the Rodeo Big Top” theme, the rodeo parade promises to be a colorful spectacle as floats make their way through downtown on Saturday, June 15.

The grand marshal for the parade will be announced when the results of a contest are determined, said parade organizer JoAnne McGee.

Before the parade's start at 10 a.m., Blue Spruce Kiwanis is hosting a pancake breakfast starting at 7 a.m. at a cost of $6 per adult and $4 per child in the downtown community parking lot.

The parade route is the same as last year. It will begin at the junction of Highway 74 and Upper Bear Creek Road and run past Evergreen Lake, through downtown and end at Meadow Drive.

Main Street will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until the last float has made its way through the parade route. On-street parking downtown will not be available until after the parade. Other than walking from downtown after the parade, no one will be allowed to leave the downtown area until the Colorado State Patrol and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office have given the all-clear and have reopened the roads.

The downtown merchants will offer entertainment and merchandise sales. And restaurants will be open for lunch until the roads reopen at approximately 1 p.m.

Gates for the Saturday rodeo performance open at noon, with the main event beginning at 2 p.m. The Sunday rodeo performance is also at 2 p.m. Rodeo tickets can be purchased at the parade.

The popular Mutton Bustin’ event will take place during the Saturday and Sunday rodeo performances, and also at approximately 12:30 p.m. Sunday, when youngsters ages 5 through 7 will try their luck riding sheep.

Event parking

General parking for those riding or walking in the parade will be provided at lots around Safeway, Evergreen Montessori School and along Troutdale Road.

Special-needs and disabled parking will be available at the Church of the Transfiguration on Highway 74.
No drop-offs or parking are permitted along the Highway 74 frontage road staging area or in business parking lots between Christ the King Church and Troutdale.
